A lot of people probably do not know about the annual Jerusalem Prayer Breakfast, which is now in its seventh year going forward. You may think, “Okay, prayer breakfast—you get together and pray; you know, there are all kinds of prayer breakfasts in the US.” I had the privilege of being part of this prayer breakfast in its creation, and I can tell you that the purpose of the Jerusalem Prayer Breakfast is very unique. The purpose of it, if I try to summarize it clearly, is to give the nations of the world an opportunity to engage and be a part of the blessings of Abraham.

This is a scriptural commandment that speaks to the Gentile Church today. Isaiah gives us guidance for how we are to relate and participate with Israel and the Jewish people.

“Comfort, O comfort My people,” says your God.
Speak kindly to Jerusalem;
And call out to her, that her warfare has ended,
That her iniquity has been removed,
That she has received of the LORD’S hand
Double for all her sins.”

A voice is calling,
“Clear the way for the LORD in the wilderness;
Make smooth in the desert a highway for our God.
Let every valley be lifted up,
And every mountain and hill be made low;
And let the rough ground become a plain,
And the rugged terrain a broad valley;

Then the glory of the LORD will be revealed,
And all flesh will see it together;
For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.” (Isaiah 40:1–5)¹

We are to make a smooth path for the return of Messiah to Jerusalem, and we are to be a blessing to the Jewish people in that process. We know that Yeshua (Jesus) will appear, and we know that the mouth of the Lord has spoken it; therefore, it will happen.

We also know as Christians that we are grafted into the covenant and the promises of Abraham. But part of that covenant was God speaking to Abraham about Abraham being a blessing to all the nations:

Now the LORD said to Abram,
“Go forth from your country,
And from your relatives
And from your father’s house,
To the land which I will show you;

And I will make you a great nation,
And I will bless you,
And make your name great;
And so you shall be a blessing;

And I will bless those who bless you,
And the one who curses you I will curse.
And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed.” (Genesis 12:1–3)

This, to me, is so much the focal point of the Bible itself. We know as we come to the end-time, we see that God gathers the nations. He is dealing with the nations of the world.

And so part of the vision of the Jerusalem Prayer Breakfast is to go out—not just to meet in Jerusalem, but to go out to the nations and have these prayer breakfasts in the different nations of the world, so that they have the opportunity to make their nations part of blessing Israel—blessing the nation, blessing the people of Israel—in order that their nation may be blessed. So it is like offering the nations a blessing on a silver platter, saying, “If you want to be blessed, here is one way that can happen for you, and your country, and your family.” And so in Abraham, all the families of the earth can be blessed.
