If God tells you to do something, then He will equip you to do it. God does not just tell Israel to love Him with all their heart, He equips them by circumcising their hearts and enabling them to love Him (Deuteronomy 30:5–6). And I believe it is the same with us. You are to love God with all your heart, and He will enable you to do that. So I encourage you to reach in with greater faith and a sense that God will enable you to love Him with all your heart and with all your soul in order to please Him. Then we will be capable of performing the works that God has prepared beforehand for us to walk in (Ephesians 2:10). The Lord told Israel, “For this commandment which I command you today is not too difficult for you, nor is it out of reach” (Deuteronomy 30:11).[1] You can do this; it is not out of reach. You can come into the reality of loving the Lord with all your heart and with all your soul.
God has set before us today life and prosperity or death and adversity (Deuteronomy 30:15). And this is the urgency that we need to understand, especially in the days we are living in. This idea of loving God with all your heart and observing His statutes and His instructions is really life and death to us. I want to live in days of life, health, and prosperity, and walk away from the day of death and adversity. This Word is near us. God is putting it in our hearts. He is putting the Word of faith in our mouths so that we can speak it into existence. We know these promises and prophecies are to Israel, and we know that these blessings are going to happen for them as they walk in these days. But I also believe that they are for all of us living in the world today. God is calling heaven and earth to witness against us; He has set before us life and death, blessing and cursing, and He is entreating us to choose life in order that we and our descendants after us may live. How do we come to that? By loving the Lord our God, obeying His voice, and holding fast to Him.
We live in an age of abundance with so many blessings. I know for sure in America that is true. It is also true in other countries. So this is a warning to us that we watch ourselves and do not forget the Lord when we have been so greatly blessed as a nation. These words of warning in Deuteronomy are to us. We are to love the Lord our God with all our heart and soul, with everything that we have, and our neighbor as ourselves (Luke 10:27). These are the teachings that God has commanded us. These are the words that He has put upon our hearts. It is possible for us to do them, and we have to stop saying, “This is too difficult for us.” It is not too difficult. God has made it possible. The promise in Jeremiah is that He will write His Word upon our hearts; we will all know the Lord from the least of us to the greatest, and we will walk in His ways (Jeremiah 31:33–34). God will enable us to love Him with all our hearts. We do it together. Amen.
