Tremendous Power

God is very powerful, and He moves in power. He moved in power when He delivered the children of Israel out of Egypt. He moved in power when He raised Christ from the dead. He is a God of miracles and a God of strength. As His sons and daughters, we must not forget that. It takes an energy on our part to seek the Lord with all our heart, with all our might, and with all our strength. We must seek Him while He may be found and cry out to Him to release that power in our lives.

Paul prayed that the eyes of our heart be enlightened, so that we might know the hope of our calling and our rich inheritance in the saints. But then he added that we would know “the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe” (Ephesians 1:19).[1] Now this to me is something completely different. It is one thing to say, “I have salvation. My sins are forgiven, and I have a predestined plan of God that rests upon me.” But there is a great deal of difference when Paul starts talking about the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe.

The children of Israel were slaves in Egypt, so God delivered them by great power, miracles, signs and wonders, and with great terror and an outstretched arm (Deuteronomy 26:8). The power of God overwhelmed and replaced the power that was controlling their lives. And God is beaming this same power toward us through Christ, a power that is in accordance with the working of the strength of His might. It is the sheer power of God that we read of in the Scriptures when He split the Red Sea, brought about the destruction of the firstborn, decimated the land of Egypt, and freed the land of Canaan so that Israel could possess it. Tremendous power and might are in God.

Not only are we serving a God of power, but He is beaming toward us who believe this tremendous power that is “in accordance with the working of the strength of His might which He brought about in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. And He put all things in subjection under His feet, and gave Him as head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all” (Ephesians 1:19–23). Wow! That is powerful! This is the power being beamed toward us. This power that the Father beamed at Christ in the grave to resurrect Him is the same power that is now being beamed at us who believe. The greatest power that the universe has ever experienced is now being beamed toward us.

While reading this passage the other day, I thought, “I need to connect with this power.” I need to wait on God, meditate on Him, and get into the vibrational level of this power that is beamed toward me because it will overwhelm every other power that seems to have an effect on my life today. I want to start thinking, asking, and acting according to the power of the resurrected Lord who is working within me.
