When God makes His Word come alive in your heart, you must respond. Since we cannot fulfill that Word by our own energies or dead works, God has given us the tremendous outlet of worship. Like an explosion of our hearts back to Him, we can sing, “We believe Your Word!” We can also teach, train, and create our children to be leaders of worship and bless them with a hunger of heart that brings to the Lord this cup of cold water of worship. We may be humble vessels, but we stand in a faith that expresses back to God that He will complete His Word, even beyond our own understanding.
Worship was the answer for King Jehoshaphat as well. When a great multitude from Aram came against Israel, the king was afraid and turned his heart to seek the Lord. Jehoshaphat proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah and all the people with their wives and children gathered together to humble their hearts before the Lord. Then the Spirit of God answered through the prophet Jahaziel, saying, “Do not fear or be dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours but God’s. … You need not fight in this battle; station yourselves, stand and see the salvation of the LORD on your behalf” (2 Chronicles 20:15, 17).[1] So the king appointed singers to praise the Lord in holy attire, declaring, “Give thanks to the LORD, for His lovingkindness is everlasting” (2 Chronicles 20:21). As the people began to worship, God set ambushes for the enemy, who simply destroyed themselves. Thus, God’s people were protected and spent three days gathering the spoil.
Through our true worship, we make God greater than any situation that we face. He speaks the Word, and He will accomplish it. By faith, our worship brings every circumstance into subjection to His Word. God will never violate His Word: “Nor will I alter the utterance of My lips” (Psalm 89:34). “God is not a man, that He should lie. … Has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?” (Numbers 23:19). God’s Word is irrevocable, and He will accomplish it.
Therefore, our worship is an expression in the earth that recognizes God will fulfill the Word He has spoken. We have such a tremendous Word from God, through the Scriptures and other prophetic voices, that we must have an outlet to express our faith. God’s Word stands before all the accusations and all the opposition and declares, “God spoke it, and He will accomplish it.” When the Word comes and nothing seems to happen, our response is to worship the Lord. No matter how it appears, we know deep in our hearts that what God spoke, He will do. Even if a mother can forget her child, God can never forget what He has spoken to us, and He will do it (Isaiah 49:15). That is why we love to worship Him!
