Walk in the Pattern of Christ

Yeshua (Jesus) was the fullness of God in the earth. God’s Spirit was in Him without measure (John 3:34). It could not be measured because the Holy Spirit was always descending and pouring out on Him. It was an ongoing experience for Christ. God could pour nothing more of Himself into Yeshua because He was the fullness of Deity in the flesh of one man. No wonder things worked for Him. No wonder the demons cried out and the lame walked. Yeshua had the Spirit without measure and the way He walked is the pattern for us. Therefore, we should have the Spirit without measure as well. We are not crying out for a one-time experience. We are looking for our lives to be changed because we receive the Spirit without measure. He should continue to flow into our lives.

Being led by the Holy Spirit is still too vague to us. It is too much of a guessing game. We try to be led and pray, “Lord, lead me.” Yet, when Yeshua received the Holy Spirit, the Spirit drove Him into the wilderness (Mark 1:12). Do not just pray, “Lord, lead me.” Pray, “Lord, pour out Your Spirit on me in such a way that I am literally driven to do Your will.” The Greek word used for “driven” in this Scripture is an intense, forceful word. Jesus was thrown, impelled into the wilderness. He did not need to pray, “Father, lead Me.” He was driven by the Father to go where the Father wanted Him to go. We tend to flip that around. We go wherever we want and when we get there we say, “Now, Holy Spirit, what do You want me to do?” And He responds, “You’re in the wrong place. Go back.” Why did Yeshua wait for Lazarus to die (John 11:6)? He waited for the Spirit. When the Holy Spirit finally said, “All right, go now,” suddenly they had a resurrection on their hands (John 11:44). We should look to the Spirit and hand Him the reins. He should lead; we should follow.

The fullness of Christ is not some unattainable illusion. We are to walk as Yeshua walked; “as He is, so also are we in this world” (1 John 4:17).1 We are to appropriate His strength and provision to do the very things He did. That is different than seeing Him as an unattainable God no one will ever be like. Christ had all the attributes of Deity, but He was completely and fully man. All that He did, He did by the Holy Spirit that descended and kept on descending upon Him. We are complete in Him and have what we need to trigger the outpouring of His Spirit (Ephesians 3:20; Colossians 2:9–10).

We must face the fact that in Christ the complete provision has been handed to us, so we can walk in the same way that the pattern Son walked and do all that He did. He succeeded so we can make it—by the grace of God, by the Holy Spirit in us, and by the predetermined knowledge of God. This is so powerful! God has predetermined that we will make it (Romans 8:29). Do not give up. Do not be discouraged. You literally have the power and the strength of Almighty God focused on you. Yeshua is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6). He is the pattern, and we can do it. Father, we receive Your Spirit without measure!
