Know Your Spirit

God is Spirit. And when we come to Him, He gives us a spirit that is alive so He can communicate with us (1 Peter 3:18). We talk about spirit and about the Holy Spirit teaching us and guiding us, but we generally put that guidance on a natural level and expect the Spirit to somehow communicate to our carnal minds and make us aware of things. Think about that and take some time to analyze yourself. How do you function? Do you know what your spirit is doing? Is it functioning? Do you know what it is capable of?

Remember, your spirit is the only thing about you that is capable of communicating to God in His world—to God the Father, to the Holy Spirit, and to the Spirit of Christ—because we no longer know Yeshua (Jesus) after the flesh (2 Corinthians 5:16). The only way you can communicate with Yeshua is through the Spirit. Yeshua told Nicodemus, “Unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God” (John 3:5).[1] Those who enter into the Kingdom will be people of spirit who function in the spirit. If you want to be a concert pianist, you must study and work at it; you cannot do many other things if you want to become accomplished at it. The same is true of your spirit.

The scriptural promises are things of spirit. Yeshua said, “The words I have spoken to you are spirit and are life” (John 6:63). You can read the Bible all day long and get nothing out of it unless you connect to the Word with your spirit. Then suddenly the Word brings life to you. While beholding Him we are changed (2 Corinthians 3:18). There is a way we are going to be transformed, but until we can look God in the face and keep our spirits on Him, beholding Him, we will not change. Do you know how to behold Him with your spirit? Do you know how to walk in the Spirit? We have this amazing spirit that has come alive in us through Yeshua our Messiah and His salvation, yet it remains in its infancy when it is supposed to be maturing in the Holy Spirit, in the Spirit of Christ, and in the spirit of sonship that cries, “Abba! Father!” We are being born again in the realm of spirit by the Spirit. And the simple way of change is while beholding Him.

Discipline your spirit to behold Him. Let it be a living experience because your spirit is going to be transformed. Give yourself to focus on the Father. Yeshua said that about Himself: “I speak what I hear My Father speak. I do the things that I see the Father do” (see John 5:19, 12:50). Yeshua ever beheld the face of His Father. Whatever Yeshua was doing, He was focused on the Father and that is how He moved. You are going to do the same thing. Christ is the firstborn among many brethren (Romans 8:29). It is not unattainable. We are going through a rebirth of the spirit. It is difficult because it is unnatural, invisible, and intangible. It is like learning to swim. You are literally immersed into a different world and you have to learn to cope with it. But you can. Just because it is difficult does not mean you have to be satisfied with living on this natural plane. You can choose.
