The Holy Spirit—Ruach HaKodesh—appears in the Hebrew Scriptures in three specific places: Psalms 51:11 (“Do not cast me away from your presence and do not take your Holy Spirit from me”), Isaiah 63:10 (“But they rebelled and grieved His Holy Spirit”), and Isaiah 63:11 (“Where is He who put His Holy Spirit in the midst of them?”). Here we have an exact translation as “Holy Spirit”— but this does not give us a complete picture of all occurrences and functions of the Holy Spirit within the Hebrew Bible. • “Hopefully, an in-depth study of the Holy Spirit at work in the Hebrew Scriptures will open the eyes of those who have been taught incorrectly that the Old Testament is not spiritual and deals only with a natural physical level, and that only the New Testament deals with things of Spirit or the moving of the Spirit.”
