When asked by John the Baptist if He was the expected one, Yeshua presented His messianic calling card—the fulfillment of scriptural prophecy that John himself witnessed. For Peter, the acceptance of Gentiles was not lawful, but he recognized the fulfillment of Scripture when he witnessed the Holy Spirit fall on the Gentiles. Do we see the fulfillment of Scripture in the events we witness today? The Lord is fulfilling His words over Israel. Will we recognize the messianic calling card in our generation?

Yeshua knew that He was fulfilling the messianic proclamations of the prophets. He saw what was happening through Him and understood that the works confirmed the Scriptures. Christ knew He was in the time of the unfolding of the Scriptures that Israel had waited for years to see. John the Baptist also understood who he was and what he was doing because he knew the prophecies in the Scripture, and he saw the events of those prophecies unfold around him.

When Peter witnessed the Holy Spirit fall on the Gentiles in the house of Cornelius, he was able to understand from his study of the prophetic Word what was taking place, how he fit into its fulfillment, and proclaim to the people what was transpiring. It was not even legal for Peter to be there, but He let the Lord lead him and bring him to the understanding that the prophesied salvation for the Gentiles was being fulfilled in his day.

We too must know the prophecies of Scripture and recognize exactly where we are positioned in their fulfillment. For the last 70 years, there has been the unfolding of prophecy in the land of Israel, but there is more to come. Will you know what it is when you see it? Study the Word. Study the prophecies. Wait on the Lord until you recognize—like Christ, like John the Baptist, like Peter—the fulfillment of Scripture taking place in your midst.

1. We are a generation that is observing the signs. If we are aware of what is happening, then we should be alert. Our attention should be grabbed by these events until we recognize the fulfillment of prophecy.
2. We need to know what we are doing in this generation. What is our place in the Scriptures? How are we to respond to the unfolding of prophecy and the fulfillment of Scripture around us? We are to be alert!
3. Waiting on the Lord is not passively sitting around. We wait with an earnest expectation, with an aggressive drive in our hearts to see the Word fulfilled, because it is our hope for the day in which we live.
4. We must study His Word and be alert to understand the prophecies. And we should be waiting, with hope and anticipation, for their fulfillment.
