We think of waiting on the Lord as a form of meditation. In a sense it is, but it is meditating on the Word; it is not just trying to clear your mind. When we wait upon the Lord, we are waiting for the Word of God to manifest, to jump off the pages of the Bible and appear in the physical world. Waiting on the Lord is an earnest expectation, a moment-by-moment anticipation that we will see the physical fulfillment before our eyes of what God has spoken.

Waiting on the Lord should be part of our prayer life. It is something we must learn and develop and exercise more consistently. The first step in that process is understanding what waiting on the Lord is.

The concept of waiting is anticipating that someone or something will arrive or that you will receive something. It is not nebulous. You are looking to experience something specific in the physical world where you live. Likewise, waiting on the Lord is anticipating that what God has spoken will transpire in the physical world.

As believers in Christ the most important promise in the Scriptures is the physical return of Christ out of His heavenly invisible Kingdom to establish His physical, visible Kingdom on the earth. And the most important aspect of what we do as we wait upon the Lord is looking to see manifested in front of us everything proclaimed and promised by the Word of God.

It is difficult at times to receive the promises of God because they are often those things that eyes have not seen, ears have not heard, and have not entered the heart of man (1 Corinthians 2:9). As we wait upon the Lord, we go through a preparation process that enables us to embrace what God wants for the earth. Our waiting on Him draws that invisible realm into its fulfillment and manifestation in the visible realm.
